- Swedish massage. Developed in its namesake nation, Swedish massage is one of the best known and most-employed massage modalities currently available. Techniques include circular pressure, firm kneading, percussive tapping, and long, gliding strokes. In addition to general stress relief, Swedish massage helps increase oxygen levels in the bloodstream and improves circulation, which helps relieve pain and swelling in the feet and elsewhere.
- Deep tissue massage. This is similar to Swedish massage, but with slower and firmer strokes and greater pressure designed to reach deeper layers of muscle and connective tissues. It is a great technique for rehabilitated injured muscles and can even help break up scar tissue over multiple sessions.
- Trigger point therapy. Trigger point work focuses on releasing tightness and tension in a specific location that could be causing pain throughout the body.
